Our Mission

Hazel Carpenter Home is committed to offering a dignified lifestyle in an environment that promotes happiness, life enrichment, independence, security and meaningful living to older adults.

Who We Are

The Hazel L. Carpenter Home is licensed by the State of New York as a
private, non-profit adult care facility that is open to men
and women. Administrators and staff proudly maintain a family−type residence − one that is attractive, convenient, caringly overseen, and comfortably adapted to the needs of the elderly.

Activities

Activities for the residents and social
programs are provided in order to
enhance the quality of life. Participation
in these activities depends on individual
interests and personal choices. A
hairdresser visits the premises weekly
and consultation with a Podiatrist is
available too as permitted within
Medicare coverage.

Below are some of the activities residents
can participate in:

* Balloon Volleyball
* Bingo
* Bowling
* Church Service
* Dice Game
* Manicures
* Movies
* Musical Programs
* Pen Pal Exchanges
* Restaurant Lunches

History

The governing body is a Board of Managers made up of volunteers from the community. The Hazel L. Carpenter Home, formerly known as the Old Ladies Home of Madison County, was founded in 1882 by representatives of area churches as a residence for elderly women. In 1915 it moved from the original wood frame structure on the corner of West and Stone Streets in Oneida, New York to the present handsome colonial red brick building on Oneida's Main Street.

Assisted Living

What is assisted living ?

Assisted living residences combine housing with personalized services and healthcare assistance. They promote independence while providing care and support in a warm, home like residential setting. Staff are available 24 hours to meet both scheduled and unscheduled needs.

Who is assisted living for ?

Assisted living is designed for those who are at a point in their life where it is too difficult or not safe to live alone. It is for people who need some assistance with everyday activities such as bathing or dressing but do not need 24 hour medical care.

What are the differences between the three assisted living models?

New York has three models of assisted living. These three models are adult homes, enriched housing programs and assisted living residences. All three serve the same type of residents and provide substantially similar services. Resident rooms vary among facilities; however enriched housing programs generally provide apartment-style living and adult homes provide private or semi-private rooms without kitchens.

How do they differ from nursing facilities?

Individuals in adult homes, enriched and assisted living facilities do not require 24 hour skilled nursing or medical services. They generally need support with activities of daily living or assistance with medications.
