The Thanksgiving Hospital opened in 1868; its name expressed a widely-felt gratitude for the end of the Civil War. Over time the patient care facilities of the Thanksgiving Hospital were transferred to what is now Bassett Healthcare and in 1928 The Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home became a retirement home, now licensed by the New York State Department of Health. The Thanksgiving Home maintains a close relationship with Bassett Healthcare, whose residents receive the very best in personal medical attention.

Visitors and prospective residents are always welcome at The Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home. Applicants are encouraged to come for lunch and attend a program or special event. This is the best way to appreciate the benefits and experience the friendly, caring atmosphere at the Home.
