Vassar-Warner Adult Home enables Seniors to continue to enjoy their independence with the added comfort of having assistance when needed. When the daily chores of ordinary living become burdensome, moving to an Adult Home can be surprisingly liberating experience providing relief from worries about cooking, cleaning, home repairs, or anxieties about living alone. Seniors at Vassar-Warner maintain privacy and individuality while enriching their opportunities for companionship and continued good health.

We offer a sensitive and caring environment, with the highest quality of service regardless of race, religion, ethnic origin, or socio-economic background. We provide the compassion and warmth of a true home.

Our residents maintain individual well-being, dignity, independence and a strong sense of community.

Vassar-Warner is a 58 bed Adult Care Facility, licensed by the New York State Department of Health to provide Adult Home, Assisted Living, and Respite services. We believe in providing the highest quality of services to our residents, encouraging a healthy, social and independent lifestyle.

Vassar-Warner offers private rooms in a unique historic building, providing all the comforts of home. In addition to adult home care, Vassar-Warner is able to allow residents who may eventually require more services to utilize our Assisted Living Program. Respite is also available for up to 42 days in a calendar year for individuals needing a caring place to stay while the family or caregiver is away.

What We Provide

Our first priority is to sustain the good health, general fitness and independence of our residents. Our staff takes seriously its responsibility to keenly observe and actively meet the changing health needs of our residents.

Areas of Staffing include:
- Administration
- Case Management
- Personal Care
- Dietary
- Housekeeping and Laundry
- Maintenance
- Activities
- Business Office

A full time LPN and part time RN oversee the medical and personal care needs of each resident, and residents have the security of knowing that Home Health Aides are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our central location provides quick access to the mid-Hudson Valley's two premier medical facilities, St. Francis Hospital and Vassar Brothers Medical Center - both only ten minutes away.

But wellness is also about prevention and exercise. We offer daily exercise programs including Yoga, Chi Kung, SIPP (Senior Injury Prevention Program), and regularly scheduled walking groups that stroll the historic residential neighborhoods surrounding Vassar-Warner. Vassar-Warner offers a full activity calendar to meet the physical, social, and spiritual needs of our residents

Working with a dietician and diet technician from St. Francis Hospital, our chefs and dietary assistants prepare appealing and nutritious meals to insure residents stay healthy and energized. Guests of our residents are always welcome to enjoy meals and special events in our dining room.

Additional Services

The services of a full-time Case Manager are available to assist with any problems or concerns including applications for Medicare Prescription Drug Plans and Medicaid.

Our housekeepers and in-house laundry service keep our resident's room and clothes spotless (we even iron!) to keep each person looking and feeling their best. We know hair styling is an important part of looking good too, so we provide beauty and barber shop services on the premises.

Also located on site is the "Shoppin' Place" (our own convenience store for residents) as well as an in-house banking service.

Activities

Our activities program is about opportunity and choice. Under the direction of a full time Activities Supervisor, we offer both individual and group programming that promotes personal fulfillment as well as a sense of camaraderie and community spirit.

Residents are just a short walk or ride away from many of the concerts, gallery openings, plays, festivals, and restaurants in downtown Poughkeepsie. We also provide regular transportation to suburban shopping malls or just short jaunts for an ice cream sundae or lunch out. At other times, we bring the community directly to our residents with recitals, lecture series, travelogues, and multi-denominational worship services.

Quiet, private time is also part of our program. Vassar-Warner has a grand piano, large book collection, jigsaw puzzle, cable TV service in each room as well as a large screen TV in the parlor, and two loving cats.

Good fellowship and good company are available through sing-alongs, therapy dog visits, bingo, trivia contests, classic film fests on our large screen TV, a garden club, and happy hours (with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages). We encourage our residents to invite family and friends to visit, and visitors are always welcome at scheduled activities and meals.

Residents come together monthly to form the "Resident Council", a group that advocates for resident concerns and views on life at Vassar-Warner.
