Welcome to Our Home away from Home!

Life is full of changes and sometimes those changes can be difficult. However, a move to Meadowbrook Manor doesn't have to be.We move for various reasons during our lives – we grow up, move out of our parent’s homes to go off to school or get married, relocate due to our jobs or service to our country, and sometimes we move for health reasons. I started to recognize the discomfort, nervousness, and apprehension related to moving, in myself, during my last moves.

As the administrator of Meadowbrook Manor I’ve seen it in the individual and family members, when Mom or Dad first moves into our home. That’s why everyone who touches the lives of our residents strives to make 2Meadowbrook Manor their “Home Away From Home” as well.

I have a poem on my wall, by Esther Mary Walker, title “Beatitudes For Friends Of The Aged”, it talks about many small kindness that any person can do for another who is in the winter of their life. Simple gestures, such as offering an arm for support, just till they get their balance; taking a1 few minutes to stop to visit and sitting a little closer, so they can see or hear better; listening to the same story again, because it makes them smile. These are all things I can do, all caring people can do. And they’re all things that make Meadowbrook Manor a comfortable and safe home, for our residents.

Thank you, for visiting our web site and feel free to visit us, at Home, anytime.

Helping Hands & Companionship

Our residents have moved to Meadowbrook Manor for a variety of personal reasons, but for most that includes a need for some form of assistance. We like to see each person maintain as much of their independance as possible, while we remain available to assist where needed.
We have seen very caring relationships develop between our residents. It doesn't seem to matter at what age, the good feelings created by helping others seems always to be self rewarding.

About Us

Meadowbrook Manor opened its doors in April 1984 and has become an established home for men and women who choose to no longer live alone or can no longer live safely in their own home. We provide assistance where needed, proper nutrition and social interaction, in a safe home-like environment, with respect for their individuality.

The State of New York Department of Health Adult Services certified Meadowbrook Manor as an adult care facility and routinely evaluates our performance and adherance to the State guidelines. These reports are available upon request.

We are located in Hannibal, New York - about 8 miles west of Oswego, 6 miles north of Fulton and 40 miles north of Syracuse - just off Route 104 or Route 3.

The Owners

Susan and Donald Dodd purchased and assumed responsibility of Dulin’s Adult Home in September 1983. Recognizing the continuing need for adult care, in the Hannibal and surrounding areas, and the difficulty maintaining an aging structure, they built Meadowbrook Manor Adult Care Facility.

Sue was a resident aide for Mrs. Dunlin, before becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. Don is also a LPN, as well as an EMT with the Oswego Fire Department. Although they are no longer involved in the day to day activities at Meadowbrook, they do closely monitor the comings and goings through contact with the administrator, our monthly activity calendar, newsletter to families and notes from the resident/staff meetings.

The Staff

Meadowbrook has one of the best staffs to be found anywhere, but then my opinion may be biased. It is well understood that no one aspect of resident care is any more important than another, therefore we work very well as a team. . . Including Mascot "Esther Elizabeth" our adorable dog who is enjoyed by all.

The Resident Aides are trained through an in house orientation program. Although the state does not require adult care to have certified nurses aides, most of ours are. Those that aren’t have at least 6 years experience in an adult care setting or have cared for a family member at home, that required the same type care as our residents.

Our Cooks like to cook. Most of our meals are home style, so having families to cook for they know quite well what they are doing. They also enjoy trying new recipes, including old family or favorite recipes of the residents.

We have on staff, also, Health Care Coordinator. Our backgrounds include medical/surgical, geriatric and mental health experience as Licensed Practical Nurses. Although most of the Health Care Coordinator’s responsibilities, in the adult care setting, is documentation, there is always a Health Care Coordinator available to assist in addressing a resident’s or staff’s concern.

The Activity Coordinator arranges, organizes and runs many activities at Meadowbrook Manor and out in the community. Besides her efforts, she has an endless list of volunteers that touch our lives and lift our spirits throughout the year.

The Housekeeper and Maintenance Man are also important members of our team. They not only do the routine portions of their jobs, they also listen to the wants and needs of the residents and use good judgment, in their follow through.

Monthly staff in-services and meetings are held to continue to improve our knowledge base and skills.

The Facilty -

Enjoy our beautiful sunsets year round.

Meadowbrook Manor is a single story home with a living room, dining room, kitchen, 18 private bedrooms, 1 shared bedroom and 5 bathrooms. It also has 2 offices and a full basement.

We encourage families to bring in personal items, of Mom’s or Dad’s, such as pictures and knick-knacks, to make their room more “Theirs”. Any change in residence is made easier when you have your own belongings close.
