The Community at Sunset Wood is a shining example of what independent living should be. Located in the heart of the lovely village of New Hartford, NY, we offer security, convenience and a choice of housing options and lifestyles for independent seniors over the age of 65. Our median age, however is 87, showing that "aging in place" is the growing choice of many of today's seniors.
With social activities, meals, housekeeping and other amenities, enhanced apartment living at Sunset Wood and Sunset Court allows you to be as social or as private as you wish--without the worry of maintaining a home.
The Community at Sunset Wood consists of Sunset Wood Apartments, built in 1984, and Sunset Court, a 2003 addition. Located on Genesee Street in the heart of the Village of New Hartford, the community is conveniently situated within walking distance of shopping, restaurants, doctors' offices and churches.
The community is as private or as social as each tenant prefers. The staff consider ourselves an extended family--respecting the rights of each individual tenant, yet always available should an emergency arise. Our goal is to provide a completely independent, care-free home experience for as long as possible.
A key feature of each apartment is the 911 pull alarm. Should there be an accident or a sudden illness, our tenants are just minutes away from a full-response team. In conjunction with our belief that tenants should have the peace of mind of "aging in place," we work with them, as needed, to find suitable support and outside help.
To ensure that you experience quality living here we request a medical evaluation from your primary physician to show that you are able to live independently.
Typically, we have a waiting list for both sections of the community. There is no application fee or entrance fee and no obligation in submitting an application. If you are interested in becoming a part of Sunset Wood, we encourage you to request an application and submit it as soon as possible so that we can begin processing your request. If possible, you should also schedule a tour of the facility.
The Apartments
SUNSET WOOD
Sunset Wood offers 42 apartments on three floors. Although there are seven different layouts, they all feature a galley kitchen, large living room, one or two bedrooms with double closets, and bath. Rent includes a full four-course evening meal and weekly housekeeping.
An enrichment coordinator is available for activities and social functions, and a services coordinator is on staff to help find outside nursing and companion care. Maintenance services are available 24 hours a day.
Beautifully decorated public areas include a dining room for evening meals and monthly luncheons, a formal library and a penthouse solarium with a roof garden.
A laundromat and hair salon are on premises for easy access.
SUNSET COURT
Sunset Court is a recent addition to the community. The 24 large apartments and services were designed with more active seniors in mind--those who enjoy going places, who prefer to do things for themselves. Meals, for example, are not part of the rental agreement but may be added on with a choice of meal plans. The eat-in kitchens have full-size appliances, miles of cupboard space, and each apartment has its own washer and dryer.
The common areas include a dining room/cafe with a fireplace, a sunroom and a community room for gatherings and activities. With technology being so much a part of today's society, we offer computer access and tutoring along with the same social activities and resources as Sunset Wood.
At Sunset Wood you can join in the fun or find your own private enjoyment. Entertainment, parties, lectures, fitness classes, art exhibits are all part of the enhanced living you can be part of. And you'll find new friends, too.
